My Favourite Skincare Products for Normal / Combination Skin

WellnessSarah FretwellComment

I’m a creature of habit when it comes to some products, and remain faithful to them year in, year out. But I also love to try new products and am not afraid to mix up my routine. Having clear, calm skin is a delicate balance of giving your skin what it needs without overdoing it by layering too many different products, which can cause breakouts and congestion.

I've found that I gravitate towards a product that has the following:

  • A simple ingredients list - I'm talking fragrance and alcohol free and as natural as possible

  • Hydrating ingredients - even though I have combination skin that can get a little oily, it's so important to keep skin hydrated to avoid it becoming dull and lifeless and to protect it from the environment

  • Light, skin-friendly oils - Rosehip, Olive fruit and Macademia oils are some of my favourites

  • Non-comedogenic (pore-clogging) ingredients - i.e. heavy oils such as coconut, mineral oil etc.

My skin does suffer when the weather is super cold, so there are some product in here that have really helped combat dryness and add in hydration. There are also some products that I use to keep my pores clean and get rid of any dullness caused by congestion. I’ve linked to all of my beauty favourites below!

My favourites for hydration...

Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser - I love this because it's super hydrating but it doesn't clog my pores up. It's great for the winter months, I slather it on at nighttime and when my skin feels dry some mornings.

Sukin Micellar Cleansing Water - This is what I use to take my eye and face makeup off - it's so gentle that it can be used around the eyes without causing any irritation. It won't strip your skin of its natural oils, which is what many shop-bought cleansers do.

Sukin Antioxidant Eye Serum - Ok so by now you probably know that I love Sukin! This eye serum is super light and doesn't leave you with puffy eyes in the morning, it's great for sensitive skin because it contains soothing cucumber and natural oils like evening primrose oil.

Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Booster Face Serum - This serum is a really quick way to inject moisture into parched skin. It's amazing to use before a night out or special event, and contains a lot of the skin-plumping ingredient hyaluronic acid.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo - This lasts an absolute lifetime as a little goes a really long way. It's great for clearing blocked pores and just generally helps to keep your skin as clear as possible, without drying it out.

Aveeno Daily Moisturising Cream - I can't go without slathering this on my skin after I get out of the shower. Showers really dry my skin out so this is an absolute must, especially in the winter! It's really natural and has moisturising oat milk in it, and doesn't have a strong scent which I like. Their hand cream is amazing too and is my number 1 desk essential!

Olay Eyes Illuminating Eye Cream - Under eyes have really delicate skin, but this cream is specifically designed for the delicate skin around the eye area and  it instantly brightens dark circles. It never leaves my eyes puffy - a must for an eye cream in my books.
