Nestled in the often overlooked area of Canada Water, The Lodge Space offers a welcoming and affordable space to retreat to in busy London. From the twinkling fairy lights that surround the exterior to the warm, cosy lounge space inside, it’s the kind of space you visit to catch up with a friend over a healthy lunch, to try one of their many range of yoga, dance and fitness classes, or to just sit back into their squishy sofas with a coffee and your laptop (warning: you might not want to get back up).
I’ve been teaching yoga at The Lodge Space since the start of December, and I can honestly say that the studio is one of a kind. Often, yoga and fitness studios in London can feel a little pretentious, with girls walking around in teeny tiny yoga leggings and teachers that never remember your name, and I’ve noticed a real lack of diversity and age in some of the trendy new studios. This space feels different. Students that visit the space are of all different ages and from all different backgrounds and fitness levels, meaning the space feels very inclusive and has a real community vibe to it.
They serve up a great range of healthy smoothies, snacks, plant-based lunches and all the teas and delicious coffees you could imagine, freshly prepared by the team in their kitchen. There’s no shortage of chairs and sofa space either, so you’ll always find somewhere to sit when waiting for a class to start (or take a well earned nap after a HIIT class).
The space holds three main studios, two larger rooms on the ground floor equipped with mats and props galore, and one smaller heated room on the lower ground floor, where I teach yin every Wednesday evening. The studios are clean, cosy, welcoming and spacious, and home to a huge range of classes. From ballet, to Pilates, to yin yoga, to HIIT, to parent and baby yoga, to aerial yoga, to boxing and Barre, there really is a class for everyone, and it’s a great way to try new things without having to travel to multiple different studios and break the bank while doing so.
The instructors are all really lovely, approachable, experienced and above all passionate about what they teach, meaning they ooze positive energy. If you’re looking for a treatment, be it a massage, guasha (facial massage using smooth crystals, great for de-puffing), Reiki, acupuncture, osteopathy or anything else, they really do offer it all, and at an affordable price. They have two gorgeous treatment rooms downstairs away from the larger studio, where you’ll be able to completely relax and enjoy your treatment in the hands of an experienced therapist.
This is a space where everyone talks to each other, where everyone is welcome, and where creativity can thrive. It has a real, warm community feel, and I always feel right at home whenever I walk in, which I can't say for many studios in London. They say variety is the spice of life, and The Lodge Space really does offer it all.
