The cage door is only an illusion, we are unmistakably free.
Sarah and Sammy are very excited to be collaborating and running a joint retreat in the beautiful Sussex. Join them for a very special retreat that is sure to uplift and inspire you. Welcome to "CITY ESCAPE”, the retreat that will sweep you away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city, and connect you back to a place of stillness and clarity.
WHY THIS RETREAT
Our aim is to create a space for you to connect with yourself, the people around you and with nature. We want you to come back home to yourselves and to leave feeling utterly rejuvenated, relaxed and with a wealth of knowledge under your belt. We’ll take you on an exciting journey of the four elements: Earth, Fire, Water and Air during the four days on retreat.
We’ve got some very special things up our sleeves that we can’t wait to share with you. Space to grow, share and connect. Delicious plant-based food. Healing time away from your cell-phones and responsibilities. Time to journal, question, reflect and learn. And more other exciting surprises!
Little Gayles, Friston, Eastbourne, East Sussex BN20 0BA UK
We will be escaping the hustle of our daily lives, retreating to the Sussex Countryside, The Gayles, just one and a half hours from London. It’s the most gorgeous retreat home, with a relaxed environment, home-grown plant-based food and surrounded by the stunning Sussex countryside and national parks. There’s an outdoor pool, a hammock to relax on, gorgeous views of horses in the neighbouring fields, a spacious yoga studio and cosy bedrooms overlooking the countryside.
In order to keep the cost of the weekend down and to encourage community, we have chosen a venue with dorm facilities. ‘The Studio’ sleeps eleven people, with two showers and to toilets. ‘The Playroom’ sleeps six and has one shower and one toilet. Both dormitories offer simple yet high quality and comfortable single-sex accommodation, with sturdy single beds and bunk beds with individual storage drawers. All bedding is provided, including duvets, pillows, linen and towels.
On this retreat, you get two teachers for the price of one, making the student to teacher ratio 4:1 and as we both offer something a little different there will be plenty of variety and time for individual attention, whether that’s help with meditation, handstands, alignment or anything else.
For some people, the word “retreat” means an escape and some alone time, for others it’s a chance to meet other people or to have a few days to completely detox and destress. With that in mind, we encourage you to join in with as many or as few of the sessions as possible. If you’d rather spend a little more time in bed in the mornings, or go to bed earlier, we’re totally fine with that too! If you want a little extra activity, both myself and Sammy are available for reduced price 1:1 yoga lessons during the retreat.

If you’ve ever practised with Sarah or Sammy, you’ll know that they both find joy in the playful quality of the practice. The morning classes will therefore have an element of playfulness and fun, allowing you to be your imperfectly perfect self - (falling out of poses is all part of the journey!)
Sammy’s teaching style is fun and upbeat with a focus on giving you the opportunity to challenge yourself. Sarah’s teaching style is fluid, expressive, feminine and creative. Together they'll help you discover both the masculine and feminine sides of the practise. Between them, they have over 600 hours teacher training experience, so you'll be in good hands!
The morning practises will be strong, challenging but with the feel-good factor. We will get sweaty, explore new poses, breathe deeply and finish in the most blissful savasana. The evening classes will be softer, with a Yin focus. We’ll focus on the chakras and the elements, the subtle body and introspection and will finish up with the most relaxing yoga nidra, leaving you feeling utterly relaxed and ready to dive into bed...
We are so lucky to have organic, locally sourced and delicious food right on our doorstep at Gayles. MEET YOUR TEACHERS
Sarah first tried yoga on Yogaglo and quickly became hooked, practising everyday while she was studying in France. She soon found herself enrolling on the appleyoga teacher training course in 2013 and has been teaching in London ever since, gaining over 300 hours of training. Yoga has changed Sarah’s life in so many positive ways, helping her to grow stronger mentally and physically while bringing about a stronger connection with herself.
Sarah’s teaching style is fun, creative and always inclusive – yoga is for everybody. Sarah believes that yoga should be above all, playful. So while alignment plays an important role in her teaching, she keeps her classes fluid and fun. She’ll help you reach your highest potential by breaking down the poses or offering you ways to take your practice deeper, no matter what your level.
Samuel came to yoga after a skiing accident forced him to call time on his footballing days. The new-found time he used to dedicate himself to the yoga practice, but he soon learnt there was much more to yoga than the endorphin pump you get from the physical asana. The clarity and calmness it brought to his mind provided invaluable.
Samuel’s teaching style is fun and upbeat, focusing on linking breath with movement. He likes to challenge his students and to offer them ways to take their practice further. His energetic teaching style ensures everyone will take something away from each one of his classes – whether you are completely new to yoga or have been practising for as long as you can remember.
Having now trained over 300 hours within different disciplines, his intention is to bring everything he knows and help you develop your practice on and off the mat within this retreat.
